Florene Maxey Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Southern Funeral Home - Winnfield on Jan. 30, 2026.
Helen Florene Maxey at the age of 101 entered in the presence of the Lord on January 29,2026. She lived a rich full life as a devoted wife of 51 years and a loving mother of two sons. Donnie and Lynn, which was the joy of her life. She lived a simple life caring for her family. She was full of life and laughter. She enjoyed the duties of being a housewife. One of her favorite things to do was making jelly and canning vegetables from their garden.

She was a charter member of United Baptist Church and was a faithful member until she was no longer able to attend. She loved her family, church friends, and neighbor's visits. She always wanted to send them home with a jar of jelly or something else, seldom empty handed. She lived alone in her home until she was 99 years old.

She lived the remainder of her life at Autumn Leaves Nursing Home until the time of her passing. Everyone loved her there. The staff loved attending to her because of her sweet attitude and wittiness. She never complained and was always appreciative of their care. They would often come out laughing because of something she said.

She was preceded in death by her husband Leroy Maxey; two brothers, J.E. Franks, Dewey Franks; two sisters, Iola Higdon, Mattie Lea Armstrong; step grand-daughter, Allison Mayes.

Those left to cherish her memory are her sons, Donnie and wife Sheral, Lynn and wife Ann; one grand-daughter, Kristie Norris and husband Kevin; two great grandchildren,; three great great grandchildren; one sister, Mavis Bruce; and a host of nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 31, 2026 at United Baptist Church from 10:00 a.m. until time of services. Funeral services for Mrs. Maxey will be held at 11:00 a.m. at United Baptist Church with Reverend Brad Jones officiating. Interment will follow in the Jordan Hill Cemetery under the direction of Southern Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers the family respectfully request that memorial gifts be made to the United Baptist Church.
