John Garnett Waggener, Jr., 69, formerly of Charleston, died Tuesday, November 22, 2022, at his home in Cape Girardeau, surrounded by his family.
John was born November 20, 1953, at Ft. Belvoir, VA, to the late Major General (Ret.) John "Jack" Waggener and Mary Ella Drake Waggener. John had lived in Charleston prior to moving to Cape Girardeau several years ago.
His greatest passion was farming enjoying a 44 year long career. He especially enjoyed activities with his children and served as a troop leader with Boy Scouts of America. He was a member of the Cape Girardeau Elks
Club. John cherished his friendships with "members" of the Coffee Shop Crew. Second to farming, his favorite pastimes included fishing, bird hunting, hiking, playing cards, and reading.
On August 18, 1979, he married Karen Marie Kreutzinger, who survives of the home.
Also surviving is his son, John Peyton Waggener of Monterey, CA; his daughter and her husband, Laura Waggener McDonald and Todd Alan McDonald of Washington, DC; also, three siblings, an aunt, and several
cousins.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:30 p.m., Tuesday, November 29, 2022, at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston.
Graveside services will follow at 3:00 p.m., at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery near Charleston. Rev. Scott Moon, pastor of the United Methodist Church of Charleston, will officiate.
Interment will follow under the direction of the McMikle Funeral Home of
Charleston.
Pallbearers will be: Lee Goodin, Don Getty, Brett Matthews, Steve Brown,
Kevin Nally and James Marshall.
Honorary pallbearers will be: Jim Moreton, John Moreton, Blair Moran, Phil Rowland, Bill Feezor, Ernie Carman, Kevin Chandler, Reginald Young and Charles Brink.
