John Wagner Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Dale Woodward Funeral Homes and Cremation Services - Ormond Beach on Jan. 20, 2026.
John W. Wagner Jr. passed away peacefully at home on January 9, 2026 in Ormond Beach, Florida surrounded by family. He was born in Alliance, Ohio on November 25, 1937.
Growing up, John loved to play baseball and was an All County pitcher, then went on to the minors until a shoulder injury limited him to play in recreational leagues, then softball. He coached youth baseball in the Homeworth area, where he believed all players should have an opportunity to play, no matter their skill level. His other interests included family history, where he tracked the family ancestry back to the 1620's.
In 1974, John achieved an advanced degree in professional engineering and shared a partnership in a Canfield, Ohio firm. In 1980, he moved to Prudhoe Bay to work as a structural engineer on the pipeline before he relocated to Anchorage where he opened his own company and consulted for many years.
His love for hunting, fishing and the outdoors is what ultimately took him to Alaska, where he lived and worked for 23 years. John then returned to live close to family in Homeworth, Ohio and his last three years were spent in Ormond Beach, Florida near his daughter.
John is preceded in death by his parents, John and Dorothy Wagner. Left to cherish his memory are his two sisters Carolyn Snode and Judy Kafory, son and daughter-in-law John and Suzan Wagner, son Mark Wagner, daughter Chris Wagner and Robert Krogh, a caring friend to the end. John had six grandchildren - Adam Wagner, Jessica Christa, Ali Hallman, Courtney Wagner, Zachary Wagner and Tyler Rizzi in addition to 9 great grandchildren, 1 great, great grandchild and a host of relatives.
