Don May Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Dale Woodward Funeral Homes and Cremation Services - Ormond Beach on Jan. 11, 2026.
On December 20, 2025, Don Lawrence May joined his loving mother, Christine
(Griffith) May, his adoring father, Edward May, and his older brother, Ellis Albert
Griffith (Griff) May, in eternal life. Born on April 25, 1940, Don was a loving
husband to his wife, Ann (McCaffrey) May, of 57 years, and was a devoted father
to two adoring children, Kelly Ann LaVelle May (married to Brian D. DeBarros),
and Daniel Patrick May (married to Criste Seeley May). Don adored his
grandchildren, Dillon Thomas, Amaura Ann, Azariah Lucky (Kelly Ann), Griffin
McCaffrey, and Ruby Lucille (Daniel).
Don grew up in Detroit, Michigan, served in the U.S. Army, and earned a
Bachelor of Science degree from Michigan Tech. Don enjoyed a long career as a
mechanical engineer and was a pioneer in the modernization of industrial
manufacturing in Rochester, NY. However, far and above his educational and
professional accomplishments, Don was a loving friend to anyone who had the
pleasure of meeting him. He accepted everyone as they were and found the
positive in every person he met. Don quietly supported the charities near and dear
to his heart and was especially motivated to support the education of the youngest
amongst us.
Don was an amateur historian, a wonderful photographer, and a prolific reader.
He often shared books, ideas, and stories with friends and family alike. He treated
the world as his personal educational system and sought knowledge and growth
from every source. He enjoyed traveling and relished chatting about all the
amazing places and people in the world.
Don is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren, his sister Phillaire (May)
Dudley, and his brothers Richard Haynes May and Douglas Campbell May, along
with dozens of nieces and nephews with whom he maintained lifelong
relationships.
Don was loved beyond measure and will be missed tremendously by all whose
lives he touched. There will be a mass in celebration of Don's life at St. Brendan's
Catholic church (located at 1000 Ocean Shore Blvd, Ormond Beach, FL 3217) on
January 17, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., followed by a luncheon for all attendees in the
church hall. In lieu of flowers, Don asked for contributions to be made in his name
to St. Brendan's Catholic School.
