John Edward "Big Jack" Walsh

John Edward "Big Jack" Walsh 84, of Rutherford, NJ passed away peacefully on Sunday December 7, 2025.

Jack was born on November 26, 1941 in Chatham, NJ. He was predeceased by his parents, the late John and Elizabeth (Riley) Walsh and his youngest brother Gary Walsh. He is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Edwina (Thaler) Walsh, his two cherished daughters Erin Martinez and Shannon Walsh (Christopher Naame), his two grandsons Ryan Martinez and John (Jack) Martinez, his brother Donald Walsh (Millie Walsh), sisters in law Patricia Walsh (Gary) and Maureen (Thaler) Germer, brother-in-law Carl Germer, and many nieces and nephews.

Jack was a proud United States Army Veteran who honorably served his country in the Vietnam War. Following his military service, Jack dedicated 25 years of service to the Morris County Prosecutor's Office as an investigator, ultimately rising to the rank of Detective Sergeant. Upon retirement, Jack continued to serve the county, investigating welfare fraud.

Jack loved his family deeply and especially adored his two grandsons. He and his wife loved and enjoyed many years of watching their daughters and grandsons compete in their respective sports. Jack also loved listening to the "oldies", especially the Duprees, and watching John Wayne movies. Jack was very proud of his Irish ancestry. He loved all things" Irish", including listening to the sound of bagpipes, drinking hot Irish coffee, watching Irish parades, eating corned beef dinners and of course Notre Dame football.

Standing at 6' 7" tall, "Big Jack" was known for his larger-than-life personality, quick wit, and wonderful sense of humor. His legacy is his family, as his love, humor and kindness shall continue to resonate through them. Jack will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to know him.

A Memorial Mass will be held in the new year to celebrate Jack's life. The Walsh Family invites all who knew and loved "Big Jack" to join them in honoring his memory.
