Mr. John Tillman Washington

John Tillman Washington, of Madison, Florida, passed away peacefully at Madison Memorial Hospital on December 18, 2025, following an extended illness. He was surrounded by family and loved ones.

John was born on August 12, 1946, to Tillman and Inez Washington of Pinetta, Florida. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1966 to 1970 as a communications specialist. As a Vietnam veteran, John was a dedicated patriot who deeply loved serving his country. Following his military service, John worked for a time at John Chamberlin's Cabinet Shop before beginning a long career with the Madison Correctional Institution, where he served for 20 years. Much of his time there was spent as a firearms instructor and training sergeant, roles he carried out with discipline, integrity, and dedication.

John greatly treasured time with his beloved family, especially his grandchildren. He found joy in the outdoors, tending to his farm and land, and spending time with his loyal blue heeler dogs. He loved watching birds and wildlife, appreciating the beauty of God's creation, and especially enjoyed trips to the mountains. A faithful, longtime member of Pinetta First Baptist Church, John taught Sunday School for many years. His love for Jesus was evident to all who knew him through his kind, compassionate, and generous spirit.

He is survived by his loving wife of 20 years, Pam Washington; son Josh Washington (Michelle) of Grand Forks, ND ; daughter Wendy Spell (Jason) of Lake Park GA; son Daniel Godwin (Abby) of Madison, FL; seven grandchildren, Dylan, Aubrey , Aylana ,Bethany, Noah, Isaac and Evertt; sisters Mary Nell Goff of Valdosta, GA, Lisa Washington of Pinetta,FL and brother Joe Washington of Pinetta, FL.

A celebration of John's life will be held Tuesday, December 23, 2025 at Beggs Funeral Home Chapel, 235 NW Orange Avenue Madison FL. The family will receive friends and loved ones at 9:30 am with a service to follow at 11:00am. Graveside to follow at Mt. Horeb Cemetery.

Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to Big Bend Hospice of Tallahassee. Gifts in honor of John may be made to Samaritan's Purse, an organization he faithfully and humbly supported and deeply believed in. samaritanspurse.org.
