John Weichman, age 88, of Branchport, NY formerly of Irondequoit, Wayland and Cohocton passed away on Monday, March 25th, 2024 at the Penn Yan Manor Nursing Home.
John was born in Rochester, NY on December 25th, 1935, the son of the late Joseph and Clara Weichman. He served in the US Army and married Martha J. Woods on August 15th, 1959 and renewed their vows in 2019. He worked maintenance for Gunlock, the Villages of Wayland and Irondequoit. He was a volunteer fireman for St Paul Blvd. Fire Dept. and a member of the Branchport United Methodist Church. John enjoyed hunting and fishing.
John is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Martha (Woods) Weichman; daughters, Rhonda Jeffers of Henrietta, Vera Clark of Kentucky, Laurie Shepherd of Kentucky and Sharon (EJ) Mehlenbacher of Warsaw; son, Tom Weichman of Avoca; grandchildren Jessica Hewitt, John Klug, Travis Meyer, Jennifer Fox, Michael Shepherd, Nichole Shehperd, Stephen Clark, Victoria Clark, Joseph Weichman, and Kendra Jeffers; with many greats who loved him dearly.
A celebration of John's life will be held from 5pm to 7pm on Thursday, April 4th, 2024 at Townsend Wood & Zinger Funeral Home, 201 E. Elm St., Penn Yan, NY 14527, followed by Military Honors at 7pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, PO Box 6704, Hagerstown, MD 21741.
