John "Jack" Weinbrecht July 20, 1935 – March 29, 2025
John "Jack" Weinbrecht, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, educator, friend, and coach, passed away on March 29, 2025.
Born on July 20, 1935, he was the beloved son of Catherine Gillis (Murray) and John A. Weinbrecht (NYPD, NYFD).
Jack's life was forever changed when he met his "Italian beauty," Helen, on a blind date. That night, she went home and told her parents she was going to marry him-and just four months later, in September 1974, they were husband and wife. Together, they built a life filled with love and happiness.
Jack was a proud and dedicated father to his daughter, Christina Marie, and a loving grandfather to his grandson, Claudio John Alvarez.
He is also survived by his siblings, Margaret McGovern, Catherine Weinbrecht Finer, Carol Berry, and Gerard Weinbrecht, as well as many cherished nieces and nephews.
Education was a cornerstone of Jack's life. He graduated from St. Nicholas of Tolentine School in the Bronx before earning his Bachelor's degree from Catholic University in Washington, D.C., and later, a Master's degree in History at Manhattan University. He went on to teach for 12 years in New York City and spent 31 years shaping young minds in the North Rockland School District.
Beyond the classroom, Jack had a passion for coaching. He led CYO baseball and basketball teams to championships at Good Shepherd and St. John's Kingsbridge and coached track and girls' basketball at Farley Middle School.
A true sports enthusiast, Jack was an avid fan of the Yankees, Rangers, Jets and of course, the "Fighting Irish". He was also a dedicated parishioner of St. Anthony's Church in Nanuet and a proud resident of West Nyack for over 45 years.
Jack's kindness, wisdom, and unwavering love for his family and community will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
