John Edwin Weir, who was born on January 30, 1936, in Des Moines, Iowa, passed away on Monday, September 30, 2024, at Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and a respected member of his community, leaving behind a legacy that is etched in the hearts of many.
John was a proud owner of John's Automotive in Waukee, showcasing his entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to service. His quest for new challenges led him to Minnesota, where he started his own locksmith business. Eventually, he returned to Waukee, continuing his work in the locksmith industry and further solidifying his role as a valued tradesman in the community.
John proudly served his country, faithfully and honorably in the United States Army. Outside of his professional life, John had a passion for various hobbies. He enjoyed golfing and bowling, putting together many puzzles, always seeking opportunities to stay active and engage with friends. He also had a love for being outdoors working in the yard and creating cherished memories in nature's embrace.
John is survived by his beloved wife, Margaret Weir of Waukee; his brother Dick (Ardi) Weir of Crete, IL; his daughter, Maria (Steve) Anderson of Waukee; his sons, Robert (Miranda) Weir of Ankeny and Rick (Mona) Weir of Des Moines; and his cherished grandchildren, Zackariah (Hayley) Kilchesky, Hope Lindquist, Caitlin Rizzuti, Elizabeth Rizzuti, Cheyenne Weir, and Cassian Kilchesky and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Glen and Nellie Weir, and his sister, Patricia Eisbrenner. John's memory will be honored by those who knew and loved him, as they carry on his spirit of hard work, dedication, and love for family and friends.
John will be laid to rest at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery Columbarium outside of Van Meter, Iowa. Card/Memorials may be directed to the family via Ernst Funeral Home, PO Box 986, Waukee, IA 50263.
