John passed away peacefully at the age of 88. He was a special person to many people- a caring uncle to his niece and nephew, inspiring piano teacher to his students, devoted owner to his cats and a long-term true friend to many.
He is preceded in death by his brother- Norman Donald Weisenfluh, and his parents- Anna Shellenberger and Norman Weisenfluh.
Born in Lancaster, PA- John always loved animals and music. He lived for a period of time in Slippery Rock, PA where his father was president of Slippery Rock State Teachers College. He was in band and chorus at Slippery Rock grade school. His college studies took him to the University of Michigan where he studied music.
After college John moved to Los Angeles, California where he taught piano at the community school and later at USC. Along with music, he loved Persian cats and always had one or two. He also enjoyed Asian art and antiques, dim sum and traveling to Asia. He was in Los Angeles for more than 50 years and late in life decided to return to his Pennsylvania roots- first in Pittsburgh and then in Harrisburg.
A remarkable thing about John was how well he kept in touch with many friends and relatives. He loved to talk in person or on the phone and had an email chain where he would send jokes, animal pictures and music clips to people.
People will remember his sometimes snarky sense of humor, intelligence, sensitivity and caring.
John will be cremated and his ashes buried at Silver Spring's cemetery in Rohrsburg, PA.
