John S. Wermuth, 84, of Corpus Christi, Texas, passed away peacefully on August 28, 2025.

He was born in Louisville, Kentucky on July 22, 1941 to Alvin Wermuth and Betty Hopper. His Catholic upbringing and faith was of deep meaning and importance to him and even led him to discern seminary in his younger years. He had a special devotion to St. Therese and St. Michael the Archangel.

John was a proud veteran who served in the U.S. Army just prior to the Vietnam War in the 1st Infantry Division, 16th Infantry Regiment, “Big Red One” and was a proud member of the American Legion Post 364 in Corpus Christi. In 1986, John met the love of his life, Tracy Freeman, and together they built a life filled with love and devotion, family, friends and travel. John never knew a stranger and this was evidenced in his passion for sales. He retired after a fulfilling 35 years from Neill-LaVielle in 2003.

Those who knew John could count on friendly banter with regard to his favorite pro-football team, the Green Bay Packers, and college basketball, team, the Kentucky Wildcats. He was also an avid bowler and loved backyard basketball with friends and neighbors. As an avid outdoorsman, traveling and camping topped his list.

John was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Betty. He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his wife Tracy, and children Cheryl Rasche (Bruce), Carla Stivers, and step-daughter, Michele Johnston (Buck), as well as many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and other family members and many special friends he loved very much.

A celebration of John’s life and Memorial Mass will be held privately at a later date. The family invites friends to share photos or loving memories.

The family would also like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Angel Bright Hospice Care for their compassionate care and support.
