John Robert "Bob" Werthman

John Robert “Bob” Werthman, age 94 of Cherokee, IA, passed away Friday, April 19, 2024, at a Sioux City hospital. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 23, 2024, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cherokee, IA. Father Dan Rupp will officiate. Burial will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Cherokee, IA. Visitation with family present will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Monday night at the Greenwood-Schubert Funeral Home in Cherokee. There will be a 7:00 p.m. prayer service, followed by a 7:15 p.m. rosary following the visitation at the funeral home. John Robert “Bob” Werthman, age 94, of Cherokee, IA, the son of Theodore and Henrietta (Timmins) Werthman was born on July 28, 1929, in Cherokee, IA. He attended school at Immaculate Conception School through the 10th grade, when he left school to do family farming due to his father’s passing.

On November 21, 1950, Bob was united in marriage to Joan Fuchs until her passing in 1999. He later married Jan Otto on December 29, 2000.
Bob devoted his life to God, family, and farming, the loves of his life. He was involved in farming for 73 years. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and was a 4th Degree in the Knights of Columbus. 

Bob passed away on April 19, 2024, at Mercy One Siouxland Medical Center after a farming mishap. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Joan; siblings, Donnie, Dale, Wayne, and Mary; and two son-in-laws, Bryce Crawford and Bob Streit.

He will lovingly be remembered by his wife Jan Werthman of Cherokee, IA; children: Susan (Dick) O’Neill of Urbandale, IA; Ted (Brenda) Werthman of Marcus, IA; Sandra Crawford of Tampa, FL; Mary Kay (Tim) Full of Minneapolis, MN; Tony (Darla) Werthman of Cherokee, IA; and Ann (Jeff) Ries of Colorado Springs, CO; two stepchildren: Curt (Dee) Otto of Holstein, IA and Debra (TJ) McGill of Kansas City, MO; 16 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, one sister Elaine Nurse of Sheldon, IA; and other relatives and friends.
