John (Jack) Ralph Westcott of Oakton, Virginia, passed away peacefully on Thursday September 18, 2025 after 91 years of a well lived life.
Jack was born March 8, 1934 and is preceded in death by his parents, George H. Westcott and Marion (Marvell) Westcott of North Amherst Massachusetts. Jack graduated from Amherst High School in 1952 and University of Massachusetts in 1956 where he was President of the Phi Mu Delta fraternity. Upon graduation from the University of Massachusetts, he then went to the University of Michigan where he graduated with a Masters degree in Public Health. When President Kennedy said: "Ask not what your country can do for you but what you can do for your country", Jack answered the call. He moved to Washington D.C. and began work with the United States Public Health Service where he had a lengthy and outstanding career for nearly 50 years. After retiring, Jack continued his calling of public service by volunteering with the Community Lodgings After School Program in Alexandria, VA, teaching citizenship classes for Catholic Charities, and visiting his daughter's classroom reading to her students. He enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, and Gail's family in Massachusetts. He and Gail traveled the world extensively. Jack played tennis for many years even making it to the USTA Nationals. As a sports fan, he enjoyed watching football, basketball, and baseball - (Go Red Sox!). He then later took up ping pong to keep himself active and engaged.
Jack is survived by his loving wife Gail Sullivan, his children Betsy Schwers (Mike), Sean Westcott (Jean), Karen Lanzetta (Nic), and Julie Westcott. He is also survived by his beloved sister Judy (Westcott) Ingram, his grandchildren Ian Westcott, Megan Westcott, Samantha Schwers, Devin Schwers, his former wife Jean M. Westcott, and nephews.
