John Williams Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by McMahon, Lyon & Hartnett Funeral Home, Inc. on Jan. 29, 2026.
John Williams was born seventy years ago on December 2, 1955 and died Tuesday evening, January 27, 2026. He is survived by his beloved wife, Rosemary, his cherished sons, Bryan and Devon, and his brother and lifelong friend, Michael Williams.

John's hometown was Saint Albans, West Virginia, but for many years he was, with his growing family, a resident of White Plains, New York. He and Rosemary found on Greenridge Avenue the warmest of neighborhoods, a true community.

John studied Landscape Architecture at West Virginia University and Psychology at Fairmont State. From these beginnings he built an illustrious career as director of marketing at Hayden Wegman and then as National Director of Sustainable Development at HDR Engineering, Inc. Since 2012 he served as Chairman and CEO at Impact Infrastructure, Inc.

Additionally, well, there's much additionally, he found time to be an adjunct professor and lecturer at Columbia, Yale, and Harvard, served on the board of NYFA (New York Foundation for the Arts) for ten years, served as four-term board chair (2018-2021) at the Institute for Sustainable Infrastructure (ISI). And for twenty years he was an esteemed and accomplished elder at the Stamford Church of Christ in Stamford, CT.

His mission was always to "do good and great things." This was his mantra and became the mantra for so many whose lives he impacted.

His paradise was Martha's Vineyard where his family vacationed for thirty five years and where he built his Daydream home which he and Rosemary happily and graciously shared with a multitude of guests.

He loved his family, his Stamford church family, his Greenridge neighbors, his White Plains community, his Vineyard neighbors, all his morning Facebook peeps (laughing regulars all) and his many co-workers throughout his career.

Most of all, he loved God and quietly put others before himself. He continued his parents' generosity by caring financially for those less fortunate, not always with even Rosemary knowing. His daily prayer, which his sons have taken over, was: "Give us grateful hearts, Our Father, for all thy mercies and make us mindful of the needs of others." He lived this out until his final hour.

From Guy and Rodeline

John Williams was the most gracious of hosts, always opening his home and his heart to others. He had a rare gift for making everyone feel seen, valued, and special. With quiet generosity, he instinctively reached out to include the least fortunate in his circle, offering them care, dignity, and belonging.

In many ways, John was an angel who walked among us. His kindness, compassion, and gentle spirit will continue to warm our hearts for as long as we live, indeed, even if we were to live a thousand years.

We extend our deepest love and sympathy to his beloved wife and our dear friend, Rosemary, and to his sons, Devon and Bryan.

With much love, respect, and admiration,
Guy and Rodeline

I remember John fondly from our School days, he was a truly kind person. So very sorry for your loss!

It had been quite some time since I had seen or spoken with John and Rosemary. But, I remember him fondly. He was always kind to me during my days at Stamford and he was a very decent human being, even if he didn't see eye to eye with you on some issue or person, etc. That didn't matter. What mattered was his care for myself, others and his family. You will be missed brother. Rest easy in Heaven. My prayers and well wishes are with the Stamford church family, Rosemary and the boys.
