John Edward Wilson, age 78, of Perry, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, January 3, 2026.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 8, 2026, at the Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home, Perry Chapel. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service, beginning at 12:00 p.m. Burial with Military Honors will follow at the Rippey Cemetery in Rippey. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the family for a designation to be determined in John’s name. Online condolences may be shared at www.caldwellparrish.com.
John was born on February 23, 1947, at the King's Daughter Hospital in Perry, Iowa, to George and Mary (Hale) Wilson. He proudly and honorably served his country in the United States Navy.
On May 7, 1977, John was united in marriage to the love of his life, Peggy Shirley, in Weatherford, Texas. From this union, they were blessed with a daughter, Theresa.
Throughout his life, John worked many years as a lineman and later as a truck driver before retiring in 1980. He enjoyed motorcycle rides, fishing, and camping. John had a deep appreciation for old westerns, movies, guitars, and music - especially Willie Nelson. Above all else, he treasured his family, with his grandchildren holding a very special place in his heart.
John is survived by his daughter, Theresa Wilson Salts (Kendall) of Perry; two grandchildren, Andrew Wilson (Jessica Padilla) of Brighton, Colorado, and Maria Salts (Nick Vrchoticky) of Perry; two nephews, Edwin Bates Jr. of Waukee and Donald Bates of Des Moines; a cousin, Betty Martin of Missap, Texas; and many dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Mary Wilson; his wife, Peggy Wilson; and his sister, Sharon Bates.
