John Winiarski, 88, of Kensington, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 14, 2025. He was the beloved husband of Crestawa "Pat" (Ferenc) Winiarski, with whom he shared over 61 wonderful years of marriage since August 22, 1964.
Born in Poland, John was the son of the late Kazimierz and Janina Winiarski. A longtime resident of Kensington, John proudly served his country in the U.S. Army before beginning a 37-year career as a truck driver with UPS, where he was known for his strong work ethic and friendly spirit.
A devoted parishioner of St. Paul's Church in Kensington and a proud member of the VFW Lodge #10732, John was deeply involved in his community. He played an active role in Berlin Youth Soccer, sharing his love of the game with younger generations. His interests were as varied as they were passionate. He was an avid reader, an author who wrote a book on the history of Berlin, CT, a loyal UConn Basketball fan, and an enthusiast of soccer, stamp collecting, antique cars, gardening, and friendly games of Farkle and Setback.
John was known for his warm and approachable nature. He could strike up a conversation with anyone and make them feel like an old friend. His charm and good humor endeared him to all who knew him.
He will be remembered with love and gratitude by his family, friends, and all whose lives he touched with kindness and conversation.
In addition to his wife, he leaves his three children, Donna McVeigh and her husband Mark of Windsor, Karen Winiarski of Meriden, and Steven Winiarski of Kensington, four grandchildren, Kayla Cassidy of East Hartford, Matthew Cassidy of Mansfield Center, Nic Winiarski and Lily Winiarski both of Newington. He also leaves his five siblings, Jack, Richard, Helen, Susan and Theresa, many nieces, nephews and close friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to call on Tuesday, November 18th from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Duksa Family Funeral Homes at Burritt Hill, 332 Burritt St., New Britain. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, November 19th at 11:30 a.m. directly at Sacred Heart Church, 158 Broad St., New Britain. He will be laid to rest with military honors in Sacred Heart Cemetery, New Britain.

Yesterday

So sorry to learn of John's passing. I worked with John at UPS many years ago in the feeder department. I would talk to him in the lunch room and that is where he got me interested in stamp collecting. My sincere sympathy to his family on the loss of such a nice person.
