U.S. NAVY VETERAN
STONELICK TOWNSHIP - John Edward Winters Jr., aged 78, passed away on Thursday, February 12, 2026.
Beloved husband of Shirley A. (née Mayer) Winters. Loving father of Tanya (David DeStefano) Pettiford, Matthew (Michelle) Winters, Jaime (John) Young, and Heather (Rob) Salvucci. Son of the late John Edward and Margaret Mary (née Vennefron) Winters. Cherished grandfather of Malcolm, Jason (D'aja), Connor, DJ, Logan (Cymphony), Draven, Jacob, Christopher, Sarah, and Michael, and proud great-grandfather of five.
Raised in Mount Adams, he grew up surrounded by a large extended family in a close-knit neighborhood. He graduated from Purcell High School in 1965 and proudly served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War as an electronics technician.
Following his service, he attended the University of Cincinnati and earned a business degree. He spent 45 years in the paint industry and retired from Sherwin-Williams in 2013.
In 1982 he married Shirley, and together they turned a farmhouse into the heart of a growing family. Summers there were filled with fishing, cornhole tournaments, and family gatherings. He proudly said he had a baseball team and a cheerleader - his ten grandchildren.
He loved golf, traveling, bass fishing, and telling stories detailed enough to transport listeners decades into the past.
More than anything, he loved his family and considered himself truly blessed.
Visitation will be held Thursday, February 19, 2026, from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. at St. Louis Church, 210 N. Broadway St., Owensville, Ohio. Immediately followed by funeral mass at 10:30 a.m.
Private family interment with military honors will take place at Dayton National Cemetery at a later date.
