John Arthur Wise, 53, of Norman, Oklahoma, passed away on September 6, 2025 at his home in Norman. He was born on September 12, 1971, in Whittier, California, to his parents John Leslie Wise and Elaine Cecile (Starr) Wise. John proudly served in the United States Marine Corps before beginning a lifelong career as an Automotive Technician and Shop Foreman, a role in which he worked for more than twenty-five years. John married Rebecca Stone in January 2004 at First Baptist Church in Stonewall, and together they shared twenty years of marriage, as well as one daughter, Mary, of whom they cherished with all of their hearts.
John's life was filled with a deep love for cars, motorcycles, and collecting-whether it was coins, insulators, or stories, it was his passion. He was known for sharing tales of his own experiences as well and always had a smile or laugh ready to brighten a room. A lifelong fan of NASCAR and the LA Rams, he also found joy in comradery and helping others, never hesitating to lend a hand to those in need. John spoke passionately about his faith, loved the Lord's Prayer, and encouraged those around him to pray as he always did for others. He was admired for his great knowledge, his sense of humor, and his care for those who were dear to him, and treating every child as if they were his own, generously passing on his hobbies and wisdom. John's legacy will be remembered in his service to his country, his devotion to family, his passion for vehicles, and his unwavering kindness toward children, animals, and everyone he encountered. He will be dearly missed by all of those blessed to have met him.
John is preceded in death by his grandparents Levi and Alice Starr; his mother, Elaine Wise; his grandfather, John Wise Sr.; and grandmother, Frances Wise (Cannata).
He is survived by his daughter, Mary Morris and husband Logan; his wife, Rebecca Wise (Stone); his father, John Leslie Wise and step mother Peggy Wise; his sisters Danette Purdy(Crummel) and husband Jack, Leslie Wise, Jessica Wise, Sierra Hannah and husband Jason, and Breanne Wise; his brothers James Wise and wife Maryvel, David Wise and wife Sarah, Aaron Rimmer and Phillip Gibboney and their families. John also leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews including Cambriea Clayton, Nicole Shore, Shawn Purdy, Ryan Purdy, Liberty Wise, Everest Wise, Phoenix Wise, Wyatt Wise, Adeline Wise, Everet Clauser, Vann Clauser, Francesca Wise, Skye Hannah, Elliot, Emersen, and countless great-nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Leslie Wise, Jim Wise, Gunner Stone, Logan Morris, Luke Stone, and Zeb Stone.
Honorary pallbearers include Jacob Stone, Kannon Stone, Kase Stone, Wyatt Wise, Everet Clauser, and David Wise.
Viewing will begin at 12:00 Thursday, September 11, 2025 at Phillips Funeral Home and will continue through visitation from 5:00PM - 8:00PM.
There will be a funeral service held to honor his life on Friday, September 12, 2025 at 10:00AM at the Stonewall First Baptist Church in Stonewall, with interment to follow at Highland Cemetery also in Stonewall.
