John D. Witt
December 14, 1942 October 30, 2025
John D. Witt, 82, of Henderson, Nevada, passed away on October 30, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
John was born in Linden, New Jersey, on December 14, 1942, to John and Helen Witt. He attended Catholic school through ninth grade and graduated from Linden High School.
He began his career with the United States Postal Service in 1962 as a letter carrier. In 1969, he moved to Amarillo, Texas, where he continued his postal career delivering mail with dedication and pride.
In 1981, John met the love of his life, Germaine, who was also a letter carrier. Their friendship soon blossomed into a deep and lasting love, and they were married in 1985 at St. Hyacinth Catholic Church in Amarillo, beginning a 40-year marriage filled with laughter, devotion, and mutual respect.
John lovingly embraced a blended family, becoming a father to Lucinda ("Cinda"), Lance, Rena, and Pam, and together with Germaine raising Shannon, Christopher, David, and Ricky. His role as a father and husband was central to his life. After retiring from the Postal Service in October 1992, John took on his most cherished role as a stay-at-home dad. He devoted his time to raising his children and supporting their many activities. John could often be found on the baseball diamond or basketball court, coaching youth teams and cheering on his kids with pride.
Known for his kind heart, steady nature, and sense of humor, John had a quiet strength that drew others to him. He was the one family and friends could rely on for honest advice, a good laugh, or a helping hand.
John was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Carol Martz, and his brother Richard Witt.
He is survived by his stepbrother Rick Young, stepsister Candy Bolyog, half-brothers Tommy Witt, Scott Witt, and David Witt; his beloved children Lucinda Smith, Lance Witt, Rena Detweiler, Pam Cogdell (Jim), Shannon Rennie (Nick), Christopher Witt, David Witt (Krista), and Ricky Witt; 23 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren, all of whom will carry his memory in their hearts.
Funeral services will be held on November 19th, 11:00 am at St. Francis of Assisi Roman Catholic Church, 2300 Sunridge Heights Pkwy, Henderson, NV 89052, with burial to follow at Davis Funeral Home & Memorial Park, 6200 S Eastern Ave, Las Vegas, NV 89119.
John will be remembered for his dedication to family, his love of coaching and community, his quick wit, and his unwavering devotion to those he loved. His legacy will live on in the lessons he taught, the laughter he shared, and the countless lives he touched.
