John Wolfe Obituary

John C. Wolfe

July 22, 1927 - June 1, 2025

John Calvin Wolfe, 97, of Lincoln, Neb., passed away on June 1, 2025. He was born in Omaha, Neb., on July 22, 1927, to Arthur and Ethel Wolfe. He grew up on a farm near Craig, Neb. He attended Craig Public School, moved back to Omaha during his teenage years, and graduated from Omaha North High School in 1945.

Following the completion of high school, he enlisted in the United States Navy towards the end of World War II. He served as a seaman in the Philippines for fourteen months. After returning home from his World War II service, he attended the University of Nebraska at Omaha and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Chemistry. After college, he worked at Miller Chemical and Cudahy Packing Plant in Omaha for seven years each.

He was united in marriage with Catherine Oberdin on May 26, 1956, at Saint Bridget Catholic Church in Omaha. Three children were born to this marriage.

After the children were born, John and Catherine moved their family to Lincoln in 1965 after accepting a job as a chemist at Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company. He worked there until his retirement in 1993.

Having grown up on a farm, John always had a love for being outdoors and growing a variety of vegetables in his garden. He was an avid Husker fan, attending many football, volleyball, basketball, and baseball games over the course of his life. He had been a season ticket holder since 1948. He was a member at Eastridge Presbyterian Church, where he enjoyed worshipping with many friends. Most importantly, John loved spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren at family and holiday gatherings, going on many trips and vacations with them, and supporting the children and grandchildren in all their activities.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Ethel; his brothers, Robert and Sam; and his sister, Dot. He is survived by his wife, Catherine; his children, Dr. Paul (Anne) Wolfe, Dr. Tom (Connie) Wolfe, and Dr. Janet (Stephen Hums) Wolfe; his grandchildren, Ryan, David, Sydney (Marc), Shelby, Katherine, and Timothy; and many nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, June 10, 2025 at 11 a.m., at Eastridge Presbyterian Church, 1135 Eastridge Drive, Lincoln. Visitation will be held on Monday, June 9, 2025, from 5 to 7 p.m., at Butherus, Maser & Love Funeral Home, 4040 A Street. Burial with Military Honors to follow at Lincoln Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Eastridge Presbyterian Church of Lincoln, Neb., or St. Labre Indian School in Ashland, Mont., https://www.stlabre.org.

Worked with John many years at Goodyear, we had many light hearted conversations about a variety of subjects, I was always expressing to him about how proud he should be to have raised 3 doctors, what a father!!! One thing I will alway thank John for is if I was having a bad day, he could always cheer you up, Thanks John, RIP!!!! Your friend Jerry
