John Wright Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Dockray & Thomas Funeral Home on Jan. 16, 2024.
John J. Wright, a cherished soul known for his humor, selflessness, and spirited nature, passed away peacefully on January 12, 2024, in Scarborough, ME. Born into this world in Norwood, MA, John's life was a testament to the joy and dedication he brought to his family, friends, and community.
John was the beloved husband of the late Regina (Tsoupelis) Wright, and a devoted father to his children, Lucas (US Naval Academy) and Ann (Montana State University). The son of Marjorie Agnew of Canton and the late Norman Wright, he was also lovingly embraced by his stepfather, the late Charles Agnew. John's warmth and laughter were shared with his siblings, Amy Shea of Ashland, Mary Martin of Quincy, E. Paul Wright of N. Attleboro, Joseph Wright of Lakeville, Thomas Wright of Canton, and David Agnew of Sharon. His memory will be treasured by his many nieces and nephews, who found in him a constant source of fun and guidance.
A proud graduate of Canton High School, Class of 1985, John's early life was marked by his athletic prowess and team spirit. He furthered his education at U-Mass Boston, where he graduated in 1989, ready to embark on a career that would be as impactful as his years on the playing field. John dedicated many years of service to the United States Customs and Border Patrol in Portland, ME, where his commitment to his work was evident to all who knew him.
John's legacy as a star football and baseball player at Canton High School was just the beginning of his lifelong love for sports. He went on to play semi-pro football with the Hyde Park Cowboys and continued his passion for baseball with the Canton Cubs. His love for the game was surpassed only by his love for the great outdoors. An avid outdoorsman, John found solace and joy in fishing and sailing, pursuits that allowed him to embrace the beauty of nature and the simple pleasures of life.
Above all, John was a devoted father. His children were the most important thing in his life, and he approached fatherhood with the same fervor and commitment he brought to every aspect of his existence. His children will remember him as a guiding light, a man who taught them to live with laughter, to give without expectation, and to approach life with a sense of adventure.
As we say goodbye to John J. Wright, we celebrate the legacy he leaves behind-a legacy of love, laughter, and the enduring power of family and friendship. His journey through life was a beacon of joy and generosity, and his memory will live on in the hearts of all who loved him. John's passing is not an end, but a reminder to cherish every moment, to live fully, to love deeply, laugh, hug your loved one's and don't sweat the small stuff just as he did.
Relatives and friends invited to attend a Memorial Mass at St. Oscar Romero Church, Canton Thursday afternoon at 12:30.

When I moved to Boston from NY in 1999, Regina and John were waiting on the steps of my new apartment to help me unload my u-haul. I will never forget their kindness towards me. May John rest in peace with Regina and his Dad. Sending prayers and thoughts to Annie and Luke.
