John Richard Yancey, Jr., 82, of Cotter, Arkansas, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, October 6, 2024. Born on July 28, 1942, in Houston, Texas, to John Richard and Luceil (Chambers) Yancey, John demonstrated an unwavering work ethic throughout his life. He dedicated many years to property tax consulting in Texas, building Yancey Tax Consultants into a trusted business. Working primarily on his own, he served his clients with integrity, precision, and respect, becoming known for his good manners and chivalrous nature.
His dedication to his work was matched only by his love for the outdoors, particularly fly fishing. Living on the White River in Cotter, he found great joy in being able to cast a line right out his back door. An expert fly tier, John shared his knowledge and passion with those around him. He traveled extensively in search of the perfect catch, fishing from Canada to Chile and in many places in between. He was also an avid golfer and a member of the Elks Lodge, embracing a life filled with both activity and reflection.
John is survived by his beloved wife, Cindy Lou (Cooper) Yancey; son, Travis Moritz (Holly); daughter, Susie Conyers; and three grandchildren, Austin Conyers, Alex Moritz, and Jaxon Yoakam. John also leaves behind two sisters, Cathleen Yancey May (Al) and Cynthia Yancey Partlow (Al); a niece, Cynthia May Mabry (Chad); a nephew, Lewis Yancey May; two sisters-in-law, Janet Wood (Lou) and Myrna Yancey; and two brothers-in-law, Doyle Cooper and Ed Cooper (Michelle), several close friends, and many cherished nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Stephen Clark Yancey.
Honorary pallbearers are Al May, Jim Wingard, Bud Webb, Lou Wood, Travis Moritz, Austin Conyers and Derrick Lyons.
Arrangements are private. Donations in John's name may be made to the Elks Lodge #1714, 101 Elk Way, Mountain Home, AR 72653.
