After his military service, he continued his journey of service at the California Department of Corrections, where he worked for 38 years, retiring as a Parole Administrator. After graduating from Tehachapi High School in Tehachapi, California, he pursued higher education at Pitzer College of Sociology in Claremont, California. His education further fueled his lifelong dedication to understanding and improving the societal systems around him.
John was a devout Christian and member of Cornerstone Fellowship Bible Church in Riverside, CA, where he found spiritual solace and community. His faith played a significant role in his approach to life, which was characterized by kindness, generosity, and compassion.
Since his youth near Yosemite National Park, John has cherished the great outdoors. He was passionate about camping and hunting. He later became a firearms collector, always advocating for safety and respect in handling weapons.
John is survived by his loving wife, Janett Yett; sons, Steven and Timothy; grandchildren Jeremy, Jett, Crystal, and Lacy Verrett; 12 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. His daughter Cynthia and his sons Thomas and Ronald preceded him in death.
A service to honor John's life will be held at Riverside National Cemetery in Riverside, CA., on October 24, 2024, at 2:15 p.m.
John's life was a testament to the power of kindness and the impact one individual can make on the lives of many. His legacy will be cherished and remembered by all who knew him.
