John Young Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Woodlawn Funeral Home - Mount Holly on Feb. 26, 2026.
John Franklin Young Sr., a resident of Iron Station, NC, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 25th, 2026, at the age of 90. Born on Friday, September 27th, 1935, in Union County, GA, John lived a life filled with passion, dedication, and love.
John was a devoted family man who cherished his time with his children, Chris Mitchell, Ella Y. Baker (Ronnie Allman), Marie Bates, Cona Y. Turner (Derek) and Andy Young (Jessica). He was also a proud grandfather to 11 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren, all of whom he adored. John's family extended further to numerous nieces and nephews, each of whom held a special place in his heart.
Preceding John in death were his parents, John Alvin Young and Christina Ramey Young, his devoted wife of over 30 years Virginia Hayes Young, and his beloved son John "Buddy" Franklin Young Jr and brother Johnny Wagner.
Professionally, John was a diligent construction worker, dedicating much of his career to the telephone utility sector. His strong work ethic was matched by his service to his country as a US Army Paratrooper with the 101 Airborne. The precise details of his service remain a testament to his bravery and dedication.
John was a man of many interests. He loved his loyal dog, Ginger, who was his constant companion. Whether he was tending to his garden, piddling in his workshop, or engrossed in a NASCAR race, John embraced life with a spirited enthusiasm. A true NASCAR fan, he initially admired Dale Earnhardt, proudly displaying #3, but later cheered for Kyle Larsen.
A memorial service will be held to celebrate John's life at a later date. Arrangements are provided by Woodlawn Funeral Home, ensuring that John's family and friends can come together to honor his memory.
John Franklin Young Sr. leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and fond memories. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his spirit will live on through the lives of those he touched.
