John Jepsen Zellinger

It is with great sadness that the family of John Jepsen Zellinger announces his death which occurred on June 1, 2023 in Des Moines, IA. John joined the heavenly ranks just a few days shy of his 58th birthday. He died of complications from various health issues.
John was full of smiles and energy and had a friendly, optimistic outlook on life. As a youngster he was active and involved with Indian Guides, Cub Scouts, Little League Baseball, model airplane building and flying. At Hoover High School he competed in baseball, swimming and wrestling. John was an avid hunter and fisherman, loved boating, his truck, and was an excellent cook – primarily off the barbeque grill (bring on the meat!).
He was in his element when he and Stacy enjoyed their summers at Sun Valley Lake in southern Iowa. He loved to swim, barbeque, fix stuff and could 'get-away.' Another of his get-away spots was his 'mancave' garage where he spent time tinkering and relaxing.
John had a green thumb producing big juicy tomatoes, peppers, and other crops in abundance in his garden. John was really a want-a-be farmer as he rode on his lawn mower and trimmed and fertilized the plants in his yard. He loved the west view from their backyard and shared many of his beautiful sunset photos. Maybe a farmer at heart but no baggy overalls for him – his appearance was casual and sharp.
Our Johnny's character was steadfast and solid with honesty at his core. Those he encountered held him in high regard and good stead. These traits helped him prosper in his business career in the trucking and logistics industry. He juggled many demanding issues and tried to satisfy all those that shipped, delivered, and received the various products. It was a stressful job and he did it well!
John had a uniquely amazing sense of humor. His quick wit made all of those around him roll with
laughter. He had a vast array of hilarious stories, quips, improvisations and voices. He also brought
great happiness to his many pets – lots of dogs, large and small, and one lucky cat. One of the reasons they loved John was that they knew he was easily trainable. In addition to making them laugh, John was very respectful of the older generations in both his families. He treated them with a warm caring love; he enriched their lives.
All of us are ever so grateful to have had the time we did with John, although way too brief. He is now physically out of our reach, and will be in our thoughts and hearts forever. He is survived by his spouse of 30 years, Stacy Lee (Keninger) Zellinger, parents Gary and Dee Zellinger, sister Amy Lorene Burford, brothers-in-law Steve Burford and Tim Keninger, and in-laws Leland and Karen Keninger.
