Johnnie Davis Obituary

Published by Legacy on Dec. 16, 2025.
Johnnie Faye Davis, beloved mother of Christopher Glenn Davis of Mahahual, Mexico, and Jonica Allison Davis of Round Rock, Texas, passed away peacefully at her home on December 2, 2025, after a courageous 15-year battle with lung disease. She was 79 years old.
Johnnie was born on February 9, 1946, in Duncan, Oklahoma, to Jesse Edward Jones and Mary Elizabeth (Roberts) Jones. She was raised primarily in Velma, Oklahoma, a small oilfield community, and was the cherished "baby" of the family, the youngest of eleven siblings.
After graduating from high school, Johnnie attended Oklahoma State University for one year before relocating to New York State for several years. She later returned to Oklahoma to complete her education at Central State University in Edmond.
Johnnie met and married the love of her life, Michael Edward Davis (preceded in death), and the couple eventually moved to Austin, Texas, where they later separated. Determined to provide for her two children, Johnnie made the courageous decision to pursue a legal career. She enrolled at St. Mary's University School of Law in San Antonio and graduated first in her class.
Johnnie went on to build a distinguished career as a transactional real estate attorney, becoming certified by the State Bar of Texas to practice both commercial and residential real estate law. She served as Managing Partner of Miller & Davis, P. C. and Davis, Opper & Gambrell, LLC, before founding The Davis Law Firm, P.C. in Austin. Johnnie loved practicing law, and her commitment to excellence was unmatched. She was deeply respected and admired by her employees, clients, and industry colleagues alike-for her leadership, loyalty, fairness, expertise, professionalism, and creative problem-solving.
When her health began to decline, Johnnie made the difficult decision to close her firm and retire. Though bittersweet, retirement allowed her to fulfill a long-held dream of living on the oceanfront in Mahahual, Mexico, alongside her son, Chris. There, she found joy in gazing at the ocean and painting watercolor still lifes and seascapes from her balcony.
As her medical needs increased, Johnnie returned to Texas to live with her daughter, Jonica. During this time, they shared countless conversations and evenings spent watching cooking competition shows, murder mysteries and survival shows-while Johnnie never stopped dreaming of one day returning to Mexico.
In her later years, Johnnie became deeply active in her faith and church community. She formed a close and meaningful bond with her pastor and fellow members of Park Hills Baptist Church. She also became increasingly charitable, often expressing regret for having spent so much of her life "chasing the Almighty dollar." In her final days, Johnnie devoted herself to reading her Bible and striving to live with patience and benevolence. She was not afraid. She was weary-and she was ready to go home.
Johnnie was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings Joan Lambert, Joe Jones, Jonsey Jones, Juanita Cox, Jane Morgan, and Jottie Epley. She is survived by her son, Christopher Davis; her daughter, Jonica Davis; her grandchildren, Ethan Michael Davis and Tori Faye Davis Perez; and her sisters, Jeraldine Doyle of Nahunta, Georgia, and Joella Clarke of Powderly, Texas. Diane Hervol, beloved and loyal friend, confidante and "right-hand woman." She will be forever loved and remembered.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, December 21, at 3:30 p.m. at Park Hills Baptist Church, 900 Mopac Expressway, Austin, Texas.
