Johnnie Lee (Reneau) Lewellyn, age 87, of Powell, Tennessee, passed away Friday, March 7, 2025, at her residence. She was born August 24, 1937, in Knoxville Tennessee.
Johnnie is preceded in death by her mother, Pauline Reneau Gibson; stepfather, Jack Gibson; and a brother, Don, who died in his youth.
She is survived by her husband of 68 years, William Albert Lewellyn; daughter, Donna Michelle Taylor; son, William Bryan Lewellyn and wife Karla; and granddaughters Emily Mason and husband Judson, and Isabella Taylor.
An avid homemaker, Johnnie enjoyed cooking homemade meals (especially for Thanksgiving and Christmas), reading mystery novels, gardening, planting flowers, and shopping for great bargains for her family. Johnnie loved the ocean and visited many lighthouses on the Atlantic coast.
Johnnie was born and raised in the Knoxville community. After meeting and marrying her husband, William A. "Bill" Lewellyn, Johnnie and Bill lived in Fort Lewis, Washington for four years, where Bill served in the U.S. Army. Eventually, the couple settled in Powell, Tennessee, where they built their home and started a family. Johnnie and Bill were longtime members of Knoxville Baptist Tabernacle under the preaching of Dr. Robert (Brother Bob) Bevington.
Some of Johnnie's greatest memories were visiting Canada, New England, Daytona Beach, many trips to the lowlands of Savannah, Georgia, and Florida, where she visited with relatives and enjoyed the warm climate.
Johnnie volunteered in the Powell community as a Brownie and Girl Scout Leader, and served as a room mother in her children's school classrooms. Johnnie also relished spending time with her granddaughters, taking them on trips to the Great Smoky Mountains, Gatlinburg, and Pigeon Forge.
Johnnie was a remarkable woman known for her strength, determination and unwavering spirit, and her strong-willed nature inspired many. She faced challenges head-on, never backing down from what she believed was right.
A graveside service will be held at 3:00 PM on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, at Greenwood Cemetery, 3500 Tazewell Pike, Knoxville, TN 37918, with Alvis Robinson officiating and Victoria Hall leading the music.
