Johnnie Mae Chumbley Corona Davis

Johnnie Mae Chumbley Corona Davis, 87, died peacefully in the early morning of Sunday, November 3, 2024, after a brief stay at Kennesaw Mountain Tranquility Hospice, in Kennesaw, Georgia. She was comforted by her Sons, Daughter and Family. She said she was ready to go home and would gladly leave whenever Jesus came and took her hand.
She was born July 30, 1937, in Atlanta, Georgia and was the first child of John Bamon Chumbley and Viola Mae Hood. She developed osteomyelitis at the age of three and spent the majority of her childhood as a patient at Scottish Rite Hospital where she was home schooled.
Johnnie was blessed to have had two wonderful husbands. She was married to James Louis Corona for 20 years until he died in 1972 and then met and was married to Alvin Patrick Davis for 18 years until his death in 1993. The loves of her life were her five children. She loved being a homemaker and was a Master of organizing Easter Egg Hunts, Thanksgiving Dinners, Cookouts and Birthday Parties which always featured her "secret recipe" Peanut Butter Cake.
Mrs. Davis worked as a Pharmacy Assistant for 33 years for Eckerd Drugs. She began her charitable service of hand delivering prescriptions to the elderly and shut-ins at Del Mar Gardens and the Smyrna Towers where she would eventually reside for the last 13 years of her life.
Johnnie loved the Lord and loved her Church. She was a member of First Methodist Church in Atlanta until moving to Smyrna. She enjoyed watching Dr. Charles Stanley, Andy of Mayberry, The Price Is Right and the Cooking Shows. She religiously attended her Thursday Bible Study Group at the Towers as well as her Friday Church Service led by Brother Billy Johnson.
Mrs. Davis is preceded in death by her husbands, James Louis Corona, Sr. and Alvin Patrick Davis; her grandparents, William Riley and Susan Aldine Hood; her father and mother, John Chumbley and Vi Chumbley Hendrix Racci; sisters, Dianne Chumbley, Jodie Terrebonne and Dinky Wheeler; daughters, Jill Myers and Judy Wallace; and grandson, Joshua Newell.
Johnnie Mae is survived by her son James Benjamin and Cindy Corona; daughter Joanna and Jack Noonan; son James Louis Corona and Christie Williams; nephew Happy and Ruth Terrebonne; sisters Betty Chumbley Hartline, Tudy Hendrix Guillot, Freida Racci Bonner; brothers James Hendrix and David Racci and by many, many magnificent grandchildren and great-grandchildren and by countless friends and neighbors at her beloved Smyrna Towers.
A Graveside Service for the Family will be held Saturday, November 23, 2024, at 10:00 am at Riverview Cemetery in Atlanta with Rev. Randy Walworth officiating. In lieu of flowers, the Johnnie Mae Corona Davis Family requests you make memorial contributions to the Children's Hospital of Atlanta or the American Cancer Society.
