On August 23, 2025, the Lord dispatched an angel from heaven and called his servant, Johnnie Ross, Jr., into eternal rest. Johnnie Ross, Jr. was born on March 6, 1941, to the late Johnnie Ross, Sr. and Christine McNeil-Ross.
Johnnie attended public schools in Fayetteville, NC. At an early age, he left home and moved to Virginia. He was a well-known entrepreneur, owning Ross Roofing for over 50 years. He was a mechanic as well. He loved fishing, bowling, and playing dominoes. Johnnie was a skilled pool player, which he has obtained many trophies from various competitions. In the world of pool, he was given the name "Mr. Wonderful". Johnnie also had a love for gospel music. Throughout his lifetime, he has sung with several gospel groups. The group that had his heart the most was the Peerless Four of Norfolk, VA. He was the top tenor singer best known for songs like "Leave It to Jesus," "23rd Psalm," "One Life to Live," "Trees," and their notorious hit "Peace In The Valley." During his time with the Peerless Four, they traveled around the world, sung with major groups, which resulted in them winning numerous awards and many other accolades. After the death of the manager, Pop Johnson, Johnnie took the responsibility.
Johnnie Ross, Jr. was preceded by his sister, Veronica (Pecola) Ross, and son, Garland Ross.
Johnnie leaves to cherish his precious memories with sons, Demetrius Ross, Vincent Ross (Karissama), Eldred Ross, Johnnie Ross, III, Marcus Shaw, and Marlon Shaw; daughters, Sherry Ross-Christopher, Tonya (John) Junco, Crystal Lee (Brian), Malika Ross, Chantel Ross-Harper (Charles), Tanesha Ross, Christina Ross-Hardy (Timothy), Martina Shaw, and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
He also leaves to share his precious memories with brothers: Ernest Ross (Leslie), of Raeford, NC, Daniel Ross of Fayetteville, NC, Bobby Ross of Fayetteville, NC, Leonard Ross of North Carolina, and Nathaniel Ross (Joleta) of Arlington, TX; and sisters, Rena Ross of Washington, DC., Gloria Williams (Roderick) and Sheila Ross of Reston, VA.

Hello, My name is Dawn Holton. I live across the street from Mr. Jonnie Ross´s sister, Rena Ross here in Washington, DC. Ms Ross has been very sweet, kind and supportive to me and my mother before during and after my mother passed last year. So with that being said, even though I never met Mr. Ross and to hear her dote over him, he must have been a wonderful man. I´m sending my prayers to him and the family. May Jesus bless you in his holy name. Amen.
