Johnnie Walter Tramp

Johnnie Walter Tramp was born January 19, 1940 in Smithville, Texas to Charles and Leona Wessels Tramp. He was the third of four children. He was confirmed at Grace Lutheran Church in Smithville on April 11, 1954. After graduating from Smithville High School in 1958, he spent some time working for Harris Manufacturing Company in Itasca, Texas.
He married his high school sweetheart, Gladys Schroeder, on April 28, 1962, then chose to serve his country in the US Army for a three-year tour of duty. He and Gladys had their first son, Dwain, while he was stationed at the Air Defense Station in Penn Grove, New Jersey. After his time in the army, he returned to Harris Manufacturing Company for a short time. Their second son, Richard was born in Smithville, Texas while they were visiting family. The Tramp family moved to Waco in the late 60s where Johnnie went to work for IBM, and couple years later he transferred to Killeen.
During their years in Killeen, their youngest son, Kevin, was born. Johnnie enjoyed a 30-year career with IBM, and after retiring he took a job with 1st Community as an ATM repair specialist for several years before he was ready for full retirement. He remained in Killeen until 2014, when he and Gladys bought a house on a few acres in the countryside outside of Lampasas, Texas. The boys set up the Triple T Taxidermy shop on their property, and Johnnie and Gladys ran Triple T Game Processing. They hosted many large family gatherings at their ranch, and enjoyed the beautiful trees, wildlife, and sunsets. He passed away peacefully on March 28, 2024 at St. David's Medical Center in north Austin, ending his struggles with cancer and other illnesses in his last few years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, Wilburn.
He is survived by his wife Gladys, his three sons, Dwain Anthony and wife Teresa, Richard Charles and wife Kim, Kevin Allen and wife Julie, 14 grandchildren, 15 (and one more on the way) great-grandchildren, one soon to be great-great-grandchild, his sisters, and many extended family members.
The Visitation will be held at 11 am on April 9, 2024, followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 12 pm at Crawford and Bowers Funeral Home in Killeen, Texas. Burial will be at 2 pm at Central Texas Veterans' Cemetery.
