Johnny Ray Aikman, born July 11, 1952, passed away peacefully at his residence surrounded by his family, on Wednesday, October 8, 2025.
Johnny was the proud owner of Vac N' Stitch in Athens for 40 years, where he built not only a successful business but also lifelong friendships with the many customers who came through his doors. A man of many passions, Johnny spent 20 years as a jet boat racer, chasing adventure and the thrill of the water. He also served faithfully as Chairman of the Election Commission in Meigs County for the past 14 years, demonstrating his commitment to his community and integrity in service.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Mary "Tookie" Aikman, and his brother, Robert "Herb" Aikman.
Johnny was married to the love of his life, Helen Aikman, for 36 years. He leaves behind his brothers, Ross Aikman, Jim Moore; nephews, Todd Aikman, Kevin (Tiffany) Aikman, Elliott (Hannah) Aikman; nieces, Jada Aikman Leahy, Taylor Aikman; sister-in-law, Barbara Ray; many special friends, Jeff Womac, Mike Franks, Ronnie Webb, John Webb, Jamie Webb, Bill Kelley; as well as several cousins, great-nieces, and great-nephews who will forever cherish his memory.
Johnny was a family man, a confidant, and a true friend to many. He had a special way of making everyone feel welcome-whether through his easy laughter, heartfelt conversation, or genuine care for others. He loved being surrounded by people and took joy in sharing stories, smiles, and good company.
Johnny's presence will be deeply missed, but his kindness, laughter, and love will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
