It is with profound sadness that the family of Johnny Carmona (58) announce his peaceful passing in the arms of his wife on July 5, 2023. Johnny was a devoted husband and adoring father to his three children. He was born to Julia Rodriguez Carmona in Houston, Texas on July 28, 1964. Johnny graduated from J. Frank Dobie High School where he met and later married his high school best friend, Deborah.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 27 years, Deborah Buenrostro Carmona ; children: Erica Amelia Carmona (Boo), John Steven Andrew Carmona (Snowden) and Jeremy James Hunter Carmona, brothers and sisters: Elias Rodriguez, Jr. (Cristina Rodriguez), Manuel Rodriguez, Anita Griego, Alma Block (Thomas Block), Jesse Cisneros (Laura) uncle: Joseph Gamino; 19 nieces and nephews, 38 grandnieces and grandnephews, several great grandnieces and grandnephews, as well as numerous extended family and dance friends.
Johnny was preceded in death by his mother: Julia Carmona Rodriguez, Father-in-law Jimmy Buenrostro, sister: Amelia Guerra and husband Felix Guerra, sister-in-law: Ruth Rodriguez, brother-in-law: Louis Griego and nephews Joseph Alan Block and Vincent Martinez.
Johnny began his career working for Sam's Club as a night stocker. He grew to develop his
management skills and worked in the Marketing/Membership Department and finally in the Human Resources Department. Additionally, while working in the various departments, Johnny never ceased to serve as the Children's Miracle Network fundraising team leader. He continued to work in the community to raise awareness for the needs of underserved children. While working with the Children's Network Program, he collaborated with local elementary schools to ensure that books were donated to the students. He volunteered at the campuses reading to children and then sent them home with the books he read to them. For many of them it was the first time to own a book. He also received the Hero award for his dedication to serving the community. Johnny also served as President of the South Belt-Ellington Chamber of Commerce to advance the economic growth, welfare and success of businesses in the area.
He took pride in the chamber's vision to ensure that the area was a great place to live, work
and do business.
As much as he gave to his community, he gave so much more to his children, family and friends. He was a supportive dance dad for 22 years. The ultimate dance dad, supportive not only to his daughter but both sons. Even getting on the stage himself for the annual Dads Dance in recital. The best prop dad at performances and competitions. He was on the board of Kennedy Dance Theatre Ballet Jete' for numerous years fundraising and organizing the annual tea and other Jete' events. Later in life, Johnny enjoyed supporting his children by going to watch dances they choreographed for competitions and recitals.
Johnny enjoyed summer family vacations in San Antonio, Texas where he made numerous friends who he considered family.
Johnny was an avid sports fan that developed with the "Luv ya Blue Oiler" days. After his team moved, he became a Tennessee Titans fan and he loved the Houston Astros, too. With his love for football, Johnny created a family friendly, but very competitive Football Pickers game that the entire family enjoyed. It grew by leaps and bounds as his nieces and nephews grew as well as his own children. The parties and friendly competition were enjoyed by everyone and still remembered to this day. His ability to remember and recognize everyone's birthday and anniversary, as well as his positive spirit and his ability to strike up a conversation with anyone were gifts that knew no boundaries. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

I still miss my dear friend so much. I miss our deep and private conversations. I miss the laughter and the sharing of tears. I miss the spirit of a person who was so very powerful and had the willingness to help people without prompting. I still hear and live by your many words of wisdom. No other friend like Johnny Carmona.
