It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Johnny Earl Cunningham, 81, of Russellville, Arkansas. He passed away peacefully on March 26, 2025. Johnny lived a life full of love, dedication, and service to his family and community. He found joy in simple pleasures and his laughter could light up any room. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend, and his legacy will continue to inspire all who knew him. He was a member of Connect Church in Russellville.
Born on April 27, 1943, in LePanto, Arkansas. He loved anything with an engine, especially motorcycles and fast cars. Johnny was a licensed pilot for many years. He was a lifelong businessman and entrepreneur. He had a deep appreciation for music. He loved hunting, fishing and golf.
Johnny Cunningham spent 55+ years building Cunningham Metals, Inc., leaving a legacy for his family and community. This family-owned small business has provided the River Valley with recycling services since 1974. His hard work and dedication have provided the framework for growth and success for generations to come.
He was preceded in death by his father, William Earl Cunningham, his mother Mazie Mckee Cunningham, and an older brother who died in infancy, Jimmy Earl. He grew up in Fort Smith, Arkansas and is a 1961 graduate of Fort Smith High School.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 18 years, Mary Ann Cunningham. Together, they built a life centered around their church, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren making memories with friends and family.
Johnny Cunningham leaves behind three devoted children: Kelly Cunningham of Russellville, Arkansas; Kim Callaway of Little Rock, Arkansas; and Johnny Ray (Cynthia) Cunningham of Russellville, Arkansas. He was the proud grandfather of seven grandchildren: Michele (Mariano) Guillen, Alex (Lyndsay) Cochran, Dana (Mark) Crouch, Leah Cochran, Nathan Jones, Mason and Hailey Cunningham. He also loved ten great-grandchildren: Gregory, Alix and Winni Cochran, Isaac, Mazie and Silas Guillen, Myah Cochran, Lavella Clark and Josephine Crouch. He had two stepchildren: Scott (Audra) Findley and family and Melissa (Leslie) Oates and family.
He also leaves behind three younger brothers, Bobby Cunningham, of Little Rock, Tommy Cunningham of Fort Smith, Eddie Cunningham of Russellville and many nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held Saturday, April 5, at 3 p.m. at Connect Church in Russellville with a memorial service at 4 p.m. under the direction of Humphrey Funeral Service.
Johnny will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him, but his memory will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all those who were touched by his kindness and love.
