Catahoula - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, February 23, 2023, at St. Rita Catholic Church in Catahoula, for Johnny Frederick, 73, who passed away on February 18, 2023, at Iberia Medical Center.
A visitation will take place at Dion Hall in Catahoula on Wednesday, February 22, 2023 at 2:30 pm and will continue all night until Thursday, February 23, 2023, at 9:30 am.
A rosary will be prayed at 8:30 pm on Wednesday evening.
Father Bill Melancon will officiate at the Funeral Mass. Interment will follow at Our Lady of the Lake Cemetery.
Johnny had various jobs through the years. He worked as a supervisor at Martin Mills for over 30 years, a bus driver for St. Martin Parish for over 30 years, and was a maintenance supervisor for the St. Martin Parish Government for 16 years. Johnny was also a volunteer fireman in Catahoula for 10 years.
Johnny honorably served his country in the United States Army in the Vietnam War. He was a member of the American Legion post in Catahoula, as well as the Knights of Columbus and the Catahoula Hunting Club.
Johnny loved baseball and was a die-hard Astros fan. He loved spending time outdoors cutting the grass, and hunting. He loved to barbecue and looked forward to a good meal with his family. Johnny was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, who will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Ella "Tina" Frederick; daughter, Caroline Billiot (Louis "Boy"); son, Joey Frederick (Amy); grandchildren, Keegan Frederick, Kaden Frederick, and Kerrigan Frederick; and his step-grandchildren, Ethan Scott, Arianna Billiot, Lena Lebouef, and Jayden Billiot.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Otto Frederick and Lena Latiolais Frederick; and a host of cousins.
Pallbearers will be Sherman "Frog" Savoy, Louis "Boy" Billiot, Tommy Latiolais, Jim Camille, Kelly Camille and Phoeby Savoy.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Joey Frederick, Herbert "Bin" Courville, Wayne Pearce and Paul Hymes.
Pellerin Funeral Home (337-332-2111) is in charge of arrangements.
