Johnny Virgil Isom of Guntersville passed away on September 27, 2025. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Johnny was born in Georgia to Mary Ann and Virgil Isom. As a small child, his family moved to the Painter Community in Dekalb County. He graduated from Crossville High School and completed a bachelor's degree with Connecticut State University. For almost 40 years he worked in electrical engineering for TVA mainly in the Energy Right Program. Afterwards, he started his own company, Energy Solutions, with his daughter Brittney as his favorite (and only) employee. Johnny was content rocking in his rocking chair on the front porch with his dogs or traversing North America with his family by car or RV. He never met a stranger and would often engage in long conversations with people he would meet in stores, museums, or sidewalks. He was also an expert at grilling and smoking, with chicken and Boston butts being his specialty. Watching his grandchildren play sports or play in the backyard brought him great joy. His other interests and hobbies included working on cars, especially old cars and trucks, horses, and dogs. He is survived by his wife, Nancy Isom. He is survived by his children: John C. (Kelly) Isom, Amanda (Mike) McCormack, Brittney (Wesley) Shaneyfelt, Forest Burks, Nathaniel Burks, and Dalton (Tianna) Burks. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Landon McCormack, Owen McCormack, Braxton Shaneyfelt, Ivalee Shaneyfelt, Libby Isom, Luke Isom, Abigail Lynch, Jon David Lynch, and Jacob Burks. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Ann Isom and Virgil Isom. The visitation was held at Carr Funeral home on Sunday, September 28, and Johnny was laid to rest in Taylor Cemetery on Monday, September 29. The pallbearers were his sons and grandsons, and his daughter, Amanda, gave the eulogy. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you please donate to Shepherds Cove Hospice. Arrangements Entrusted to Carr Funeral Home.
