Johnny Ciscero Johnson, Navy Veteran and Devoted Family Man

Johnny Ciscero Johnson, of Unadilla, passed away peacefully in a hospice center in Macon, Georgia, with his loving wife by his side on January 13, 2026. He was 80 years old.

Johnny, lovingly known to his grandchildren as “PaPa” was born in Dudley, Georgia on July 23, 1945 to Walter and Florence Mullis Johnson. He lived a life marked by quiet strength, unwavering faith and steady devotion to the people he loved.

He proudly served in the United States Navy from July 1963 to August 1966, where he sharpened his discipline, responsibility and work ethic, all traits that shaped him for the rest of his life. Retiring from Keebler in Macon after more than 30 years as a Manager, he continued baking the very best cookies.

As a devoted member of Harmony Baptist Church in Unadilla, Johnny’s faith in the Lord guided every part of his life. Serving as Deacon and being active in the Brotherhood group, he lived out his faith through humility and service. His belief in God was steady and sincere, and he set a quiet example for both his children and grandchildren.

The simple joys in life brought Johnny the most happiness. He was an avid golfer who loved both watching golf on TV and being on the course himself. He was a loyal Georgia Bulldogs fan, as well as the Atlanta Braves and Falcons. He loved southern gospel music, tending to his cows, and spending time with his dog, Sambo, who was never too far.

Christmas was very clearly his favorite holiday. The smile on his face seeing his family all together was precious. He almost always received a baseball cap, which he would put on sideways before throwing up “deuces,” making everyone laugh. Although he didn’t speak much, when he did, it was usually to crack a joke or offer a one-liner that made everyone laugh.

Johnny is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Gloria Dunaway Johnson, and his three siblings: Jack (Faye) Johnson, Rachel (Rev. Russel) Horne, and Lynette Holmes. He is also survived by his three children: Anita (Jeff) Lord, Kevin (Jennifer) Johnson and Reverend Jeffery (Tara) Johnson. He is also survived by his six grandchildren: Abigail (Zach) Griffin with great grandson Emmett Henry, Rebecca (Hunter) Dokey, Caleb Lord, Kaitlyn Johnson, Mollie Beth Johnson and Walker Johnson. Johnny was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Florence Johnson, and his sisters, Montine Birdsong and Judy Teston.

Memorial contributions may be made to Harmony Baptist Church Brotherhood or The Gideons International.

Johnny “PaPa” Johnson will be remembered for his strong faith, gentle spirit and quiet way that he cared for others. His traditions, his humor, and his favorite reminder: “Don’t take no wooden nickels,” will continue to live on through all who loved him.
