Johnny David Lyons, 55, of Marion, passed away early Monday morning, June 23, 2025 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in McDowell County on July 20, 1969 to the late Harold Lyons and Wanda June Whitehead Lyons. He was also preceded in death by an infant sister.

Johnny was employed for 25 years as a Correctional Officer with the North Carolina Department of Adult Correction. He was a positive person who never had a negative word about anyone. Johnny loved his family and enjoyed special relationships with each of his children. He liked visits to coffee shops with his son Dillion. His love for antiques and Hot Wheels was evident by his visits to yard sales with Alex, and fishing with his son Aaron always did his heart good. One of his greatest joys in life was being a Papaw. Johnny’s canine companions Gracie, who passed away, and Bella, were very special to him and brought him a lot of comfort during his illness. More than anything, he loved the Lord and was strong in his faith.

He is survived by his wife, Tracy Lyons; three sons, Dillion Lyons, Aaron McEntire (Brianna), and Alex McEntire (Madison); two grandchildren, Lochlan McEntire and Lennox McEntire; one brother, Jeffrey Lyons; and a special nephew, Tanner Lowery.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 25, 2025 from 4:00 until 5:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Beam Funeral Service. The funeral service will begin at 5:00 p.m. with Rev. Bert Williams officiating.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Mission Hospital McDowell and Medi Home Hospice for the excellent care provided to Johnny and his family.
