John "Johnny" Bonaventura Magnone, 63, of Weirton, passed away unexpectedly from ongoing illnesses on June 16, 2024.
He was born on July 14, 1960, the youngest of three children born to Sam and Rosemary Magnone.
Johnny graduated from Weirton Madonna High School in 1978 and attended Fairmont State College. Upon returning to Weirton, he became the owner and operator of Ledo's, a popular gathering spot for family and friends. After selling Ledo's, he took on the role of Director of Food and Beverage at Mountaineer Casino, Racetrack and Resort, where he worked for a number of years until moving to Florida. He eventually moved back to Weirton to be closer to his mother and children.
Johnny will be remembered by his children, family and those that knew him as someone who was fun-loving, outgoing and kind-hearted. He loved to do the daily crossword, he never let his kids win a game of Risk and was always quick to shoot hoops and toss batting practice.
A devoted sports enthusiast, John loved watching the Atlanta Braves, a passion he inherited from his father and shared with his brother, children, and grandchildren, marking four generations of Braves fans. He also enjoyed March Madness and held season tickets for Pitt football, the Penguins and Pirates over the years.
Johnny was proud of the time he spent volunteering at the Weirton Baseball Association, where he served as President of the Association's Board of Directors. He found immense joy in coaching tee-ball for a number of years, giving each player a nickname and sharing bubble gum with them.
He was a member of Saint Joseph the Worker Church in Weirton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Rosemary Magnone.
Johnny leaves behind his loving family, including his son Jared (Sarah), his daughter Kacy (Tommy) Grossi, and his cherished grandchildren Domenic, Ambrose, and Olivia. Also, his brother Tony (Theresa) Magnone, his sister and best friend Joanne (Ross) McKinlay, as well as several nieces and a nephew and the mother of his children, Susan Bucci.
Visitation will be from 3 PM until 7 PM on Thursday at the Greco Hertnick Funeral Home 3219 Main Street Weirton, WV.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 AM on Friday at Saint Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church, Weirton.
Entombment will follow at Saint Paul's Cemetery Mausoleum.
Memorial Contributions may be made in Johnny's memory to the Weirton Baseball Association PO Box 2844 Weirton, WV 26062
