Johnny Mitchell Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Wilson Funeral Homes - LaFayette Chapel on Mar. 1, 2026.
Johnny Hoyt Mitchell, age 81, of Rock Spring, Georgia, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on February 28, 2026.

John was born on May 17, 1944, in Summerville, Georgia. He spent the last 27 years of his life in Rock Spring, where he built a home filled with laughter, love, and unwavering faith.

He was married to the love of his life, Glenda Mitchell, for 63 wonderful years. This July, they would have celebrated 64 years together. Their marriage was a testimony of deep devotion and enduring love. In recent years, after John became paralyzed from the waist down, Glenda faithfully and tenderly cared for him around the clock - a reflection of the same steadfast love they had shared since the beginning.

John is survived by his beloved wife, Glenda Mitchell; his daughters, Susan Chambers (Van Chambers) and Paula Wadsworth (Greg Wadsworth); his grandchildren, Jonathan Chambers (Jenny Chambers), Abby Wilkey (Brent Wilkey), Amanda Scharwath (Alex Scharwath), and Briley Wadsworth; and twelve great-grandchildren whom he absolutely adored. Being "Boppa" was one of his greatest joys.

He retired from Ergon after many years of faithful work. But his true life's work was loving people well.

Saved in 1956, John loved the Lord with all his heart. He was a faithful member of Catoosa Baptist Tabernacle. Even when his health declined and he was no longer able to attend in person, he continued to watch services online, remaining steadfast in his faith.

John was known for his striking blue eyes that everyone commented on, his permanent smile, his contagious laugh, and his unforgettable sense of humor. He was often the life of the party, quick to laugh - especially at himself - and able to bring joy into any room. People were naturally drawn to him because he was kind, gentle, and genuinely loved others.

Though he will be deeply missed, his family rejoices knowing he is whole, healed, and no longer suffering.

A Going Home Celebration will be held on March 3, 2026, at Catoosa Baptist Tabernacle in Ringgold, Georgia at 11:00am. In honor of John's joyful spirit and the celebration of his heavenly homecoming, the family requests that attendees wear bright colors.
