Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral HomeMr. Johnny Murphy, age 88, of Newnan, passed away Sunday, February 22, 2026, at his home.
Mr. Murphy was born April 26, 1937, in Meriwether County, son of the late Wiley Edward Murphy and Pauline Washington Murphy. A resident of Newnan most of his life, he retired from William L. Bonnell Company after 42 years of service and was a member of Freeman Memorial United Methodist Church. He was an avid outdoorsman, loved cutting grass, and enjoyed watching baseball.
Survivors include his daughters, Kristi Murphy and Lori Hosmer (Tim Hosmer), all of Newnan; grandchildren, Brandi Nicholson (Caleb Nicholson), Sandi Whittle (Brent Whittle), Andrew Hosmer (Lu Hosmer); great-grandchildren, Wyatt Whittle, Micah Whittle, Ethan Whittle, Eli Whittle, Rose Whittle, Myles Whittle, Aidan Nicholson, Evan Nicholson, Landan Nicholson, Westan Nicholson; and his sister, Ruth Strickland (Floyd Strickland) of Greenville. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Annette Banks Murphy; his sisters, Betty Sue Barentine and Mildred Murphy; and his great-granddaughter, Opal Whittle.
The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, February 25, in the Chapel of Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. Rev. Caleb Nicholson and Rev. Brent Whittle will officiate and interment will be in Forest Lawn Memorial park in Newnan.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, prior to the service.
