Johnny Melvin Serratt, lovingly known as "Mel" or "Johnny," passed away peacefully on October 7, 2025, at the Hico Nursing Center at the age of 85. Born on June 21, 1940-the first day of summer and the longest day of the year-in Littlefield, Texas, Mel was the youngest of four sons born to J.J. and Lozell Serratt. He was raised in Sudan, Texas, where he grew up surrounded by family and faith.

On April 5, 1963, Mel married the love of his life, Sammie Carol Serratt. Together, they built a beautiful life in Hico, Texas, raising three sons: Mark, Jeff, and Jason. Mel's devotion to his family was unwavering, and his legacy of love and laughter lives on through them.

A man of deep compassion and service, Mel dedicated much of his professional life to caring for others as a longtime Nursing Home Administrator. He also owned and operated the Hico Laundry and Dry Cleaners, where his warm smile and kind heart made him a beloved figure in the community. Mel had a unique gift for connecting with people-always ready with a kind word, a helping hand, or a hearty laugh.

Mel's faith in Jesus Christ was the cornerstone of his life, and his family finds comfort in knowing he is now in Heaven.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 62 years, Carol Serratt; his brother, Delbert Serratt; his sons, Mark Serratt and wife Jennifer, and Jeff Serratt and wife Dainna; and his cherished grandchildren: Chantz Monk and wife Courtney, Sheldon Serratt and wife Kyler, Jeri Bennett and husband Jake, Elizabeth Morgan and husband Andrew, and Johnny Serratt and wife Courtney. He also leaves behind 10 great-grandchildren, as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Mel was preceded in death by his parents, J.J. and Lozell Serratt; his brothers, Ken Serratt and Sonny Serratt; and his son, Jason Serratt.

Mel's legacy of love, faith, and service will continue to inspire all who knew him. Sent from my iPhone
