Johny "Graylan" Shaw, 76 of
Nevils, GA passed away peacefully on December 3, 2025. Born May 4, 1949, in
Statesboro, GA. Preceded in death by his parents John Henry Shaw and Mellinee Jones Shaw.
Survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Wanda Knight Shaw, his children and their spouses, Shane and Leighann Shaw of Brooklet GA, Stephanie (Shaw) and Joel Scott of Statesboro GA, and his grandchildren, Lauren (Scott) and Chastain Coleman, Taylor (Scott) and Jesse Mayfield, Christopher and Katie Shaw, Caleb Shaw, Dalton Scott, Callen Shaw, and his great-grandchildren, Jaidyn Scott, Aubree Coleman, Delaney Mayfield, and Bodee Mayfield.
Graylan was a proud Veteran serving active-duty Army from 1970-1972, he then joined the Army National Guard in 1984 where he served with the 648th Engineering Battalion OMS Shop in
Statesboro, GA as a Heavy Vehicle Mechanic and at Detachment 9 A Company 148th Support Battalion in Fort Stewart, GA. He supported numerous overseas missions to include NATO (Bosnia) and Operation Iraqi Freedom. He achieved the rank of Sergent First Class (E7) and received the following decorations: Army Commendation Medal (2nd Award), Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal (5th Award), National Defense Service Medal (2nd Award), Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and Iraq Campaign Medal.
After his retirement in 2009, Graylan enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a true outdoorsman. He had a passion for NASCAR and the Georgia Bulldogs, but his greatest passion was serving the Lord Jesus Christ through Trinity Baptist Church where he served as an Usher and the Kitchen Ministry where he was famous for his Mac and Cheese and Sweet Tea.
The family will welcome friends and loved ones for a visitation on Friday, December 5th, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home.
A funeral service in honor of Graylan's life will be held on Saturday, December 6th, at 11:00am at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Chris Shaw, Caleb Shaw, Callen Shaw, Dalton Scott, Jesse Mayfield, and Chastain Coleman.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Dan Rogers, Lee Davis, Chuck Yeater, Marty Glisson, Bob Creech; and The Ushers of Trinity Baptist Church; Danny Carver, Eric Carver, Jason Boyles, Ivey Goodman, Cleve Goodman, Buddy Stephens, Michael Summerford, Wayne Colson, Ronnie Daniels, Darren Cribbs, Alfred Jones, Marvin Martin, Lloyd Roberts, Stephen Smith, Tim Montgomery, Steve Snyder, and David Oliff.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made to the
American Cancer Society or the
Wounded Warrior Project.
