Jon Nathan Barksdale
July 14, 1942 – October 15, 2025
Jon Nathan Barksdale, 83, of Hatch, New Mexico, passed away peacefully on October 15, 2025. Born in Morenci, Arizona, Jon was a fourth-generation member of the Hatch Valley community and carried deep pride for his roots, his family, and his country.
Jon served his nation with honor and integrity, retiring from the United States Navy after 27 years of dedicated service. His commitment to duty and discipline was matched only by his loyalty to those he loved. He was a proud veteran, a devoted husband, and a caring father and friend.
He was married to the love of his life, Donna Barksdale, for 53 years. Together they built a life grounded in love, respect, and shared values. Jon was a man of great kindness and quiet strength—humble, generous, and always quick with a sharp, good-natured wit. He loved animals dearly and found great joy riding his Harley motorcycles across open roads.
Jon was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Donna Barksdale, and his daughter, Holly Potter. He is survived by his sons, Jonathan Barksdale and Kenneth Barksdale; his daughters, Tina Mildred and Kathy Wilder; and brother, Jerry Massie. His memory will live on in their hearts and in the countless lives he touched with his wisdom and warmth.
A graveside service with military honors will be held at Fort Bliss National Cemetery in El Paso, Texas, on Tuesday October 28, 2025, at 9:30 am.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to Southwest Llama Rescue, a cause close to Jon’s heart.
Jon Barksdale lived a life of quiet courage and strong convictions. He believed in family first, remained humble despite his accomplishments, and stood proudly as a patriot. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
