Jon Michael Hultquist, age 76, of Plainwell, Michigan, passed away quietly after a long and courageous battle with COPD. He was born on March 31, 1949, in Plainwell, Michigan, to Raymond Hultquist and Nellie Underwood.
Michael spent his life rooted in the Plainwell community, where his family relocated from Walthill, Nebraska, in 1941. He was known for his love of the outdoors and simple joys—fishing on Fish Lake, hunting, taking long hikes with his beloved golden retrievers, and spending time visiting with friends.
Michael dedicated many years of hard work to his career, working for 30 years at James River and an additional 12 years at JBS. His strong work ethic and reliability were well known by those who worked alongside him.
On February 14, 1975, Michael married Suzanne Wood, beginning a marriage filled with shared memories and devotion.
He is survived by his son, Aaron Hultquist; his grandchild, Stevan Kelso; and his siblings Bert (Dot) Hultquist, Joe (Shirley) Hultquist, Janette (Gary) Saunders, and Nelita (Jerry) Currie. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Michael was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Richard Hultquist, and Lania Holstrom.
Cremation has taken place, and a celebration of life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Michael’s memory to Centrica Rose Arbor Place.
The Hultquist family is being cared for by the Avink, McCowen & Secord Funeral Homes and Cremation Society, 120 S. Woodhams St. Plainwell, MI 49080 (269-685-5881)
