Jon Valentine Lowe was born February 14, 1934, in the front room of the farm home located west of Minden, Louisiana. He grew up during the depression, so he developed a strong work ethic and high moral character. He was predeceased by his parents, Jesse and Minnie Lowe; wife, Edda Kay Ringer Lowe; brothers, Roy Lowe and Jesse Lowe; sisters, Eunice Gibson, Jennie Walter, and Jerri Lynn Hickman. He is survived by his daughter, Rebecca; son, Jon (Leanne); and sisters, Ruth Murad and Carol Casio (Frank); and sisters-in-law, Jen Lowe and Ellen Ringer.

After graduating from Minden High School, he enrolled at Louisiana State University and worked many jobs to pay expenses. After graduation, he had paid most of his expenses and had money in the bank. He entered Navy OCS, receiving a commission. After training, he was assigned as an Airborne CIC Officer in an Early Warning Squadron. After four years, he was released from active duty, and he joined the Naval Reserve, where he served as a Navigator and Tactical Coordinator in an Anti-Submarine Warfare Patrol Squadron. He accumulated 2150 flight hours and retired as a Lieutenant Commander after 20 years of service. As a poor country boy, he was honored to serve as a Naval Flight Officer.

Jon had a distinguished career as an agent with the LSU Agricultural Center. He was known for his knowledge of plants, animals and the environment. He was referred to as a walking encyclopedia by one of his co-workers. He was honored as an Outstanding Alumnus of the LSU College of Agriculture and received the Distinguished Service Award of the State and National County Agents Association. Among his other accomplishments, he was the 2023-2024 Rotarian of the Year for the Rotary Club of Shreveport, received the Paul Harris Fellow +1 Award, and was a Rotary Director for 1987 and 1988.

Honorary pallbearers are Margaret Shehee, Kay Stough, Mr. Winzer Andrews, Mr. Linc Coleman, Mr. John Dyson, Mr. Ricky Kilpatrick, Dr. Jake Majors, Mr. John Parsons, Mr. Andy Shehee, Mr. James Woods and members of the Ark-La-Tex Agricultural Council Board of Directors.

The family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the Kay Lowe Memorial Scholarship (ALTAC), Caddo 4-H Foundation, the Louisiana Methodist Children’s Home or the non-profit of choice.
