Jon Michael Patrick Casey, 85, of Jamesville, passed away at his home of complications from the West Nile Virus. Born June 17, 1939 in Mason City, IA, he graduated from Edgewood High School in Madison, WI. He went on to earn a B.S. from University of Wisconsin-Whitewater and a M.S. and Ph.D. from Northern Illinois University in Educational Psychology. He also served in the U.S. Army.
Jon worked in computers, statistics, and data management. Before he retired in 2006, he was the sole proprietor of JMC Tax Service, data manager of Oswego Children's Study at SUNY Oswego, and a successful day trader.
In addition, Jon was a commercial pilot, rated chess player, skin diver, and avid Corvette owner. He belonged to Syracuse Corvette Club, AOPA, Phi Delta Kappa, and Boat U.S.
He had an enthusiasm for living with joy and laughter, often saying, "Being Irish, I have an ethnic responsibility to bring laughter into the world." He loved to tell jokes and limericks, often making them up as he spoke. He loved classical and bluegrass music, often attending these concerts locally and nationally. He loved traveling, and he and his wife traveled all over the world, including China twice. Jon lived a rich and full life.
Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Jean Osmundson Casey and his brother, Thomas Paul Casey of Los Angeles, CA.
A special thank you to Dr. Vincent Frechette for his excellent, loving care for many years, to David Buchanan for picking him up numerous times when he had fallen, and to his aides Rochelle, Tammy, Hannah, Chianti, Jaden and Lila for their wonderful care.
A calling hour will be from Noon to 1 pm on Monday, August 5th at Eaton-Tubbs Fayetteville Chapel, 7191 E. Genesee St., Fayetteville. The servce will follow the calling hour.
