Gloucester, VA – Jona Gail Stanley, 66, of Gloucester, Virginia, passed away peacefully at home on October 10, 2025.
She is survived by her loving husband of 40 years, Kenneth Ferrell Stanley; her children, Laura Zenhye (Kurt) and Kenneth "Matt" Stanley (Emma); her grandchildren, Amelia, Layla, and Wyatt; and her bonus grandsons, Tripp and Brody. Jona is also survived by her siblings, Gary Compton (Mary Jo), Sandy Mullins (Donnie), and Patty Dearing (Paul), as well as several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Evelyn Allen; her sisters, Donna Hill and Delsie Frederick; and her in-laws, Virginia and Harold Stanley.
Originally from Metcalfe County, Kentucky, Jona moved to the Virginia Peninsula in the 1970s. She attended beauty school and graduated in 1979, beginning a career as a hairdresser in Newport News that would span more than four decades. For the majority of her career, Jona worked at the former His & Hers Hair Salon and later at B & D Hair Command, where her coworkers and clients became extended family and lifelong friends. She retired in 2022 after 43 years to focus on her health and spend more time with her loved ones.
Jona was known for her kindness, her sense of humor, and her incredible cooking-especially her banana pudding and potato salad, which were family favorites. She loved traveling, sharing laughter, and creating lasting memories with her family.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Jona's life at a memorial service on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Amory Funeral Home.
