Jonathan Acosta Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Gaita Memorial Home on Feb. 3, 2026.
Jonathan Roland Acosta, 36, of Paterson, N.J., passed away on Friday, January 30, 2026.

Born in Dover, N.J., Jonathan was a lifelong resident of Paterson. Affectionately known to family and friends as "Coco," he was the beloved son of Rolando Acosta and Sonia Nieves.

Jonathan was a devoted sports fan who proudly rooted for the New York Yankees and the New York Giants. In his free time, he was a homebody who enjoyed playing video games, especially spending hours gaming on his PS5 and watching movies. He was on the marching band and wrestling team throughout his high school years where he learned to love music and making friendships. He was a very hard worker always willing to help his team. He was a loving and fun uncle. As a hobby Jonathan collected Pokémon cards and hot wheel cars. He was known for his strong character, funny laugh and loving personality. Some of his favorite food included his mom's lasagna and Dominos pan pizza. He attended Lincoln Tech where he earned his mechanic certificate.

He is survived by his loving parents, Rolando and Sonia; his brother, Justin; his half-brother, Andrew Acosta; his stepbrother, Josh Acosta; his two grandmothers, Melva Acosta and Lus Nieves; seven aunts, nine uncles, his niece Jianna and nephew Jayce, sister in law Johanna Cruz and longtime girlfriend Maria Brito.

The family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday, February 3, 2025, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., with a prayer service and words of remembrance led by family and friends to be offered at 7:30 p.m. at Gaita Memorial Home, 154 Newark Pompton Turnpike, Little Falls.
