Jonathan Charles Culhi was born on September 18, 1975, in San Diego at the Balboa Naval Medical Center. He lived with his mother and father in Coronado until 1976 at which time they moved to Guam Naval Station. In 1978 the family moved to Honolulu Hawaii, where he attended kindergarten. In 1981 the family moved to Alameda, CA where Jonathan attended first and second grade. In 1982 the family moved to South San Diego, where he spent his wonderful childhood playing in the Kingswood neighborhood. As a sophomore at Morse High school, Jonathan joined ROTC and excelled on their drill team. Senior year, Jon transferred to Poway High School where he graduated in 1993.
After high school, Jonathan attended Mesa Community College and Long Beach State until he found his passion at Coleman College in the Information Technology industry. Jon graduated with a bachelor's degree and Cum Laude honors in 2002. Jonathan held many positions in IT over the years specializing in Storage and Technology as a Support Engineer.
Jon had a passion for photography. He collected several different cameras and loved to experiment with different lenses, compositions, and lighting. The family was left with over 9,000 images that Jon had curated over the years that are beautiful and heartwarming. His other interests included Archery, Golf, Bowling, Shooting, and spending time with his loved ones.
Jon had numerous lovable qualities. He loved cake and always volunteered to pick up cake and ice cream for every celebration (we think it was so he could buy the biggest one he could find). He always made us laugh when he accidently spoiled the end of movies unintentionally. Every family member remembers asking Jon for things over the years and his response was always and forever "No Problem". If you needed something, anything, Jon was your guy. He took role of Big Brother and Uncle very seriously and was always the quiet protector of the family.
His passing during the holiday season is bittersweet, as this was Jon's favorite time of the year. He was a generous gift giver and truly enjoyed bringing happiness to others. Jonathan is survived by his parents: John and Helen; brothers and sisters: James & Corey, Jason & Marnele, Joyce & Neil, his beloved nephew Erique and his precious niece, Aubrey.
Along with the pain of his sudden loss also comes a lesson. That our time on this earth is unknown, and moments and memories with loved ones should be cherished. We honor Jonathan by being kind, reconnecting with old acquaintances, saying "I love you", improving health, taking pictures and having adventures. We will live the life Jonathan didn't get a chance to, and we will do so with him in our hearts.
