Jonathan Hill Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Carnes Funeral Home - Texas City on Jan. 15, 2026.
Jonathan Lenell Hill, known lovingly by many as Johnny, passed away on December 11, 2025. Born in Chicago, IL on November 7, 1964, Jonathan lived a life full of dedication, humor, and love. His jovial personality could light up a room and his supportive nature made him a rock for those who knew him. He held a deep love for the city of Chicago, often cheering on the Bears, Cubs, and the Bulls. A lover of games, Johnny could often be found playing Bingo or engaging in a spirited game of Spades.

Jonathan's life was defined by his hard work and dedication to his jobs. He worked tirelessly at Walmart, Honeybaker, and Bob Evans in Marion, Illinois. His dedication continued when he moved to Houston, where he served the city through the Downtown Houston Sanitation Department. However, what mattered most to Jonathan was his family. He was a devoted husband to Velma Farmer-Hill and a loving brother, uncle, and bonus father. His family will remember him as a pillar of strength and a beacon of joy.

Jonathan was a man of faith, often reading the Bible with his beloved wife and attending church. He held a particular fondness for Psalm 23, which reads, "The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake."

Jonathan is survived by his spouse Velma Farmer-Hill, brother James Sr., nephews Elston Hill and Clenton Hill and his wife Tiffany, and bonus son Patrick Farmer. As well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, Rosalind Hill, grandmother Engerlee Hill, sister Natalie Hill, and nephew Vince Cosby.

We encourage those who knew and loved Jonathan to share their memories and upload photos to his memorial page. Your stories and pictures will serve as a lasting tribute to a truly dedicated, funny, loving, and supportive man. Jonathan's legacy will live on in the hearts of those he touched.
